People's attitudes and my responses

Today, I walked with Noelle, and I bumped into Patsy, (she said that was her name) who is a janitor because she said I was on the right side and not the left. However, she was walking her bike, and talking on the phone. I told her she should pay attention. She said I should wear sunglasses so people would not know I was blind. I said I'm not ashamed of being blind. She said I wasn't dressed right. I should wear sandals and shorts. Gee whiz. That was strange. That was the only strange thing about the walk. Gerry and Pat are right. What's the matter with sighted people? I used to have friends. I mean, I do have friends, but not here. I'm so tired of being here, even though I had three great phone calls. Cheryl wished me a happy birthday because she thought it was today. I spoke to Mike from Florida who wants me to write about his experiences as a disabled person, and as a Veteran. And Linda who is a Veteran and works for AnchorRides said she might want me to train girls from the American Legion on the Legislature. Jerry and I are still e-mailing. How sad that someone who could get us swooning in high school says he cannot sing any more. Lynne

Information from Thursday, January 24, 2013

First, I clarified that the foregoing was from Tuesday.  Bonnie, a trainer, spoke to us about breeds of dogs I believe Wednesday. We have class time and lecture at 6:30 p.m. Mike Breckenridge was so funny about not wanting to touch his dog's poop, and yet he smokes. He said he had not changed his children's diapers and he'd be damned if he did that. He was not going to do it.  Today, we had burgers and fries. In the morning, I had grapefruit. Wednesday, we had scrambled eggs and English muffin. We had roast beef, salad and chips for lunch, (I think). We had cabbage, stringed beans, rice pilaf and meat loaf on Wednesday night. Tuesday night it was chicken thighs and peas and potatoes, I think. Yesterday morning, Noelle did not eat. We went to the Science and Industry Center. Wayne worked with me on Tuesday afternoon. My strength was 91 and 141 on two machines. Cecilia has carpal tunnel. Finally, Pam said to just leave Noelle alone, and she'd eat. She'd eat, stop, and look around especially if she heard a door open, close, someone coming in or going out. We practiced obedience starting Wednesday morning, and evening and Thursday morning. We practiced sits, downs, stays, and distractions. I had grapefruit this morning, and two hamburger patties and French fries for lunch. Noelle was shivering on Thursday morning downtown Columbus. She has barked and growled, and is very alert. I lent Cecilia my earmuffs. On Thursday, we went downtown with the bus twice. On Wednesday, we walked quite a bit. Allen and I are a team. We are both returnees and congenitally blind and similar to each other. On Wednesday, we learned there are 23 parts to a dog. We met Janice Wednesday, who takes our lunch orders, and Ray Tuesday afternoon, I think. I learned about Iphone letters Tuesday and Wednesday. We played hangman on the Iphone Tuesday, and worked with letters in notes Wednesday. Allen is a good teacher. Mike asked about whether he could change his dog's name. Tuesday night, Mack and I discussed religion, faith, and philosophy. He said I am so open-minded.

Tuesday, January 22, 2013 dog school Braillenote notes

Tuesday, the 22, everything was back to normal. The Mormon's name was Bart. Caitlyn was the Hartford student. While waiting in Chicago, I heard a woman speaking in another language. It was Arabic, and she was from Iraq. We had oatmeal and danish. We went to WalMart with the dogs. Noelle would not eat morning or evening. I awakened at 5:30. We took Noelle out, and she peed. She peed in the evening. It was 12 at the highest with wind chill at 7 below. Noelle did well, but a little distracted. We had chicken patty and apple sauce. Sounds are in settings for the Iphone. Ringtones sound pretty funny on the iphone. Then we had to go to Target. I spoke to dad and Peter to put on facebook for Noelle. We met Sally the housekeeper.

Dog Guide school More updates

I thought i had gotten further with this. Steve met me at the plane. I had limabeans, and other stuff and ham. Oh, I forgot a comb. The meet and assist person who called the cane a "magic wand" was Filipino. I slept a little, and waiting for the second plane, listened to a little of the Sunday meditation. I listened to the second of two meditations and Deb said I ot through grad school, and I would get through dog guide school. I had this fear and panic. Let it go. Steve the dog guide school instructor met me in Columbus. I had sweet potato, ham and peas, according to my notes. Turkey bacon and French toast was the first thing on January 21. I was bummed I could not watch the Inauguration. On the night I came in around 10:30 or later, Steve said my roommate would show me around. Vegetable beef soup and fruit and cookie for lunch, and potatoes, roast beef and salad for dinner. I saw particles and spirals during the meditation on Sunday the 20 of January. On the 21, I met the people here. I really liked Cecilia and we talked quite a bit on Sunday night. Mike had PTSD issues. I had felt that there was abuse with one of the people. Terry had been shot, because he had been a police officer. I really liked Allen. Cecilia and Mike knew who my cousin Ron Jeremy was. We could sleep until 7 that day because it was a holiday. I meditated on that morning, and heard the "tones" which is a meditation technique while waiting for the dog. Vicki had been divorced and both she and husband are psychologists. Steve said:  "Ready to meet your new partner?" She cried, and was agitated, and looked towards the door. We did a Juno walk the morning of the 21. We use a harness and walk as if with a dog, while the instructor sees what our reflexes are, and our gait and whether we can feel the tension in the harness, or if the dog is turning. We walked around the block with Noelle after I recieved her. We took her out nearly every half hour and they got a bath, also. I had used the treadmill on Friday, the 18 and Saturday the 19.

Blast from the past

I am going to post an article that was written by a fantastic reporter F. Joseph Spieler when I was 17 about the "Blind Power Movement." He phoned me, and I missed his call. He phoned today, and I am so grateful to kitty Kroger www.kittykroger.com for doing her sixties and seventies blog, and had me featured. She researched and footnoted all the events and places I mentioned. Because she unearthed this article from the "Village Voice." I am connecting with people, and crying. Gerry, Pat and the reporter all got connected with me. What influences inform our lives, and form our opinions, beliefs and so on? Pat said she is still self-hating, and suicidal. Gerry said it was amazing what we did given the few resources we had. It was so pivotal to us. I'll keep you posted. I want to write a bok, and maybe a documentary about us. We were ahead of our time. Lynne01

My new dog meant to blog during class guide dog school

When I found out that I was going to go to dog guide school, I was thrilled. I was working on the Chi machine at home, and I received a call from Student Services. This was January 4, 2013. He said: "This is Steve Hoyt from Pilot Dogs." "Steve!" I exclaimed. Was I available January 20? He said an e-ticket would be e-mailed to me. It never was, but a ticket arrived in the mail. On the 20, I was on the plane, and the two people I sat between were from Wasilla. I went to Seattle. The person who helped me was calling my cane a magic wand. I was on my way to Dog Guide school. The person who was Filipino called the cane a magic wand. I had had time for breakfast before the fist flight. One of the Alaskans was going to Los Angeles for some adventure series. This young man, Matt, paid for a quiche for me. Bart was a Mormon, and had three sons, and we spoke during the flight. Matt had grown up as a Jehovah's witness. Bart's father lived in Mexico and he grew up in Idaho. Bart was going on Flight 22 to Chicago which was the flight iwas taking from Seattle to Chicago. On the seconf dlight, Vicki Selig was to my right, loved folk music, and said I should go to the Oldtown School of music. She and her husband were psychologists. She was Buddhist, and her husband was a Reconstructionist Jew. She grew up Catholic and Jewish. She and the two men on the first flight took down my blog adress. Vicki was spiritual, and loved Obama, and said he would use thebibles from Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Medgar ever's wife was going to speak. The woman on my left was a student going to Hartford and going to school which was the same school her sister attended. Vicki said she loved music, and loved Midnight Special, and was going to see Dar Williams soon. That's all for now. I'll continue the diary later. Lynne Koraling Genius Consultants

Iphone

I had brought the Iphone to Apple on Friday again, and it still could not connect to the Internet. Suzan, a new friend, and the partner of a friend of my husband's came over for our New Year's Day party, which was a great success. I was on with Straighttalk and they could not speak English, and Suzan got it working, turned off wifi and got the internet work without it, though she herself did not have an Iphone in five minutes. I love creative and smart people. I liked her immediately. She is looking out for us. Chris, our dog walker, has been so good for us and Queenie. Koraling Genius Consultants
